  • Total Time: 85 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 packet (7g) active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup (177ml) warm milk
  • â…“ cup (67g) granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups (372g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 pound bacon
  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • ¾ cup (150g) packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 ounces (113g) cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups (226g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) pure maple syrup
  • ¼ teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Heat the milk to between 100-110°F, about 30-40 seconds in the microwave. Add the yeast and 1 teaspoon of the sugar to the warm milk and let it sit for five minutes until it starts to foam.
  2. Mix the butter, remaining sugar, salt, and egg in the bowl of a mixer with the paddle attachment. Add the yeast/milk mixture and stir.
  3. Switch to the dough hook and add the flour slowly, starting with one cup and then adding the rest. The dough will be sticky but manageable.
  4. Place the dough in a sprayed bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
  5. Cook the bacon in a frying pan for 10-15 minutes until browned, then drain on paper towels.
  6. Stir together the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  7. Roll the dough into a rectangle (about 10×14 inches), brush with melted butter, sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar mixture and cooked bacon. Roll tightly and slice into 12 rolls.
  8. Place the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and let them rise for 1 hour or refrigerate overnight.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden.
  10. Beat together the butter, cream cheese, and powdered sugar for the frosting. Mix in the maple syrup and both extracts until smooth. Spread on warm cinnamon rolls and sprinkle with extra bacon if desired.
