A fun and delicious twist on traditional onion rings, these Mini Blooming Onions are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect as a snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup ice water
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooking oil spray

Instructions

  1. Slice the tops off the onions and peel them. Cut the onions into petal shapes, being careful not to cut all the way through.
  2. Soak the onions in a mixture of buttermilk and ice water for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Mix together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  4. Remove the onions from the soak and dry them very well.
  5. Coat the onions lightly in the flour mixture.
  6. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  7. Place the coated onions in the air fryer basket and spray with cooking oil.
  8. Air fry for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Serve with dipping sauces like ranch, spicy mayo, or ketchup. Consider adding fresh herbs for presentation.
