Delicious crusty sourdough dinner rolls perfect for soaking up soups and sauces, made with a tangy sourdough starter.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 12 rolls 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast (if needed)

Instructions

  1. Combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast (if using) in a mixing bowl. Let it sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl. Add the sourdough starter and the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Punch down the risen dough, and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a roll and place them on a greased baking sheet.
  7. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Serve warm with butter.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding herbs, cheese, or toppings like sesame seeds before baking.
