A delicious pastry that captures the flavors of fall with a tender crust and sweet apple filling, perfect for breakfast or as a snack.

  • Total Time: 60 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • 4 cups peeled and chopped apples
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, salt, and sugar together in a large bowl. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Chill for 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  3. Combine apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice in another bowl.
  4. Roll out the chilled dough into a large rectangle. Place the apple filling down the center lengthwise. Fold over the edges to seal the filling inside.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth for the icing. Drizzle over the warm kringle.
  7. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Use a variety of apples for better flavor and ensure butter is very cold for a flaky crust.
