Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 tbsp fresh dill (diced)
- 3 cloves garlic (crushed)
- 1 lb steak (ribeye preferred)
- 1 tbsp salt (adjust to taste)
- 1 large yellow onion (sliced into half rings)
- 4 slices Havarti cheese (or cheddar)
Instructions
- Combine the softened butter, crushed garlic, and diced dill until well blended.
- Slice the steak into thin strips. If the meat is slightly frozen, it will be easier to cut evenly.
- Heat an oiled skillet over high heat until it sizzles.
- Add the steak to the skillet, sprinkle with salt, and cook for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown. Remove the steak and let it rest.
- In the same skillet, toss in the sliced onions and sauté until they turn a rich golden brown, about 5 minutes.
- Slice the baguette lengthwise and spread the herb butter on both sides. Layer the steak strips, caramelized onions, and top generously with Havarti cheese.
- Place the sandwich under the broiler for about 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Slice the sandwich into portions and enjoy immediately while still warm.
Notes
For best flavor, use ribeye steak and ensure the skillet is hot before adding the steak. You can add toppings like tomatoes or jalapeños for extra flavor.
