A delightful and vibrant cake perfect for celebrations, featuring a soft texture and subtle chocolate flavor.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature
  • 3 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the buttermilk, eggs, cocoa powder, food coloring, and vanilla extract to the butter and mix until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Frost and decorate as desired, then serve at your celebration.

Notes

Make sure your butter and eggs are at room temperature for better mixing. Don’t overmix the batter for a lighter cake. For a deeper pink, add more food coloring.
