- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup baking soda
- 1 egg, beaten
- Coarse sea salt for sprinkling
- Dipping sauces (mustard, cheese sauce, etc.)
Instructions
- Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in a large bowl. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add the flour and salt, then mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Cover the bowl and let the dough rise for 30-60 minutes until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
- Bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil in a pot.
- Divide the dough into small pieces and roll each into bite-sized shapes.
- Boil each pretzel bite for 30 seconds, then transfer them to a baking sheet.
- Brush the pretzel bites with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.
Notes
Make sure the water is warm but not hot to activate the yeast. Knead the dough well for texture.
